With over 25 years experience in the mind and body field, my journey began as a remedial massage therapist working alongside physiotherapists developing a solid foundation in injury rehab, stretching techniques and movement patterns of the body. Over time, however,  I realised something was missing.

Clients were coming in with stress affected bodies, similar personality types had similar issues and I began to explore the huge connection between the body and mind. I started working with the psychology of postures, how energy is distributed in the body and identifying how tissue textures showing beliefs, emotions and mental processes are expressed through the body. As a massage therapist I take into account not only the tense or injured muscles but also how the mind is expressing itself in the body.

Through studies in psychology, somatic psychotherapy and embodiment coaching my experience in this field grew to incorporate a deeper understanding of the mind and the psyche. As a registered counsellor I work with conditions such as anxiety, low mood, life transitions, relationship concerns and trauma. My approach is a blend of cognitive based models that work with outdated thoughts and behaviours and more somatic (body) based models which access deeper parts of ourselves held in the body.

“Our bodies are the outward manifestation and
expression of our unconscious mind.
our body is our biography.”

‘Healing is not fixing yourself, it’s discovering yourself.’

Massage

Many disease processes are due to poor posture, chronic pain, injury, inflammation and emotional disturbances including anxiety and stress. Massage is specifically designed to maintain and correct these problems. It aims to repair damaged areas and soothe pain that is caused by a change in muscle structure and abnormal function.

My style is a combination of remedial massage using deep, firm pressures and treatment techniques to work into the tense muscles, overlaid with a slow moving relaxation flow which quiets the mind and calms the body.

Somatic massage is another treatment offered which uses a similar technique coupled with the exploration of the mind and body relationship. This is for anyone wanting to breakdown barriers that have been preventing them from processing trauma,  and for bringing awareness to any body part that feels disconnected or is holding stuck emotions and outdated belief patterns. These sessions are designed to find safety in the body by regulating the nervous system, shifting out of fight/flight, and allowing the internal environment to build resilience once again.

Counselling

Life can be challenging at times which can leave us feeling alone, stuck or confused. There are a number of reasons to seek support such as learning to manage anxiety, identifying and shifting trauma, releasing shame, strengthening self worth, support for grief and loss and navigating life transitions.

My areas of special interest include working with the body to shift trauma and other deeply held patterns that no longer serve us, and, secondly in supporting relationship and intimacy concerns.

I use a holistic person-entered approach which includes a number of cognitive models alongside other body-based methods. I have a special interest in the somatic work of Bessel Van der Kolk, Peter Levine and Pat Ogden and more specifically the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model. This blend of clinical theory and body- centred awareness allows for healing and growth to occur at the mind, body and spirit level.
